The National Bicycle Tour Directors Association, Inc. was formed in 1990 by a small core of ride directors who wanted to network with each other.
It has grown to include more than 100 ride directors and organizers from across the United States, Mexico, and Europe. The primary purpose of the NBTDA is to bring together the directors, coordinators, organizers, etc., of multi-day bicycle tours (two days or longer), to share ideas, learn ways to improve their events and promote responsible cycling.
There is no distinction between bicycle tours which are sponsored by non-profit, commercial, fundraising, etc., events as long as they are open to the general public, realizing that there may be restrictions because of size limitations of a ride, fees, fundraising requirements, etc. Rides must be two days or longer.
This organization is not open to sponsors of bicycle racing events, although a tour event sponsor shall not be excluded if he/she is also the sponsor of a racing event.
Membership in this organization is restricted to individuals, businesses and organizations that are directly involved with the organization of multi-day bicycle tours.
Membership fees range from $90 to $245 per year, depending on size and duration of the event. (See the table below).
Annually the NBTDA holds a conference that allows members to meet and network with each other. The conference includes lectures and breakouts with topics specific to presenting multi-day rides.
